An honest pledge for projects
that use AI-generated art

For independent or unfunded projects using AI visuals temporarily, with a clear commitment to the artists behind the art.

Two ways to keep the promise

No profit until replacement

The project will not take profit until every AI-generated visual asset has been replaced with human-made work, and each creator has been ethically and reasonably paid for their contribution.

Use only ethically licensed generation

Alternatively, the project may use AI-generated visuals only if they are created with a model trained exclusively on the work of consenting artists or collectives, and those creators receive payment for each generation.

The pledge, in practice.

Am I committing to both pathways?

No. Choose the pathway your project can honestly meet: replace the visuals and fairly pay their creators before taking profit, or use generation that meets the consent and payment conditions in the second pathway.

Does displaying the badge mean I’m verified?

No. The badge records a public commitment you make yourself. We do not currently review projects or verify compliance. Visitors should read a project’s own disclosures and ask its creators how they meet the pledge.

Do I need an account to take the pledge?

No account or signup is needed. Read the Art pledge, commit to one of its pathways, and add the badge to your website. We recommend publishing a short explanation of how your project meets that commitment.

What about AI-generated text and code?

Those pledges are still to be defined. The current pledge and badge apply only to visual art. Text and Code will have their own sections when their commitments are ready.
